Background
I have always been intrigued by how things work and using new knowledge to get stuff done. I will never forget an A-Level Biology class explaining how the structure of DNA allows information to be copied that send me down the path of understanding molecular machines and all things techy and scientific.
I enjoyed life as a researcher at the University of Edinburgh and UCLA in California but escaped academia as employee number one of a bioinformatics start-up, where I got used to getting things done in the three years I was there. I couldn’t keep away from learning and now have an MBA from Manchester Business School.
I’ve worked at Mercia since 2011 and enjoy meeting entrepreneurs, buying into their vision, and helping them achieve it. My background helps understand [some] of the tech and my start-up experience allows me to empathise with founders as I know difficult it is getting off the ground.
I’ve always been driven by curiosity - how things work, how ideas turn into reality and how founders turn vision into impact.
